His miners took to calling their haul “molly-be-damned.” If there were no other single redeeming feature of the movie, John Astin's incredible diatribe reviling every obvious wart of the benighted little town of Molly-Be-Damn as it's known for a truly tortured pun on Molybdenum, would be worth the price of admission. After that, John's character let loose with a diatribe against the townspeople using proper English words to describe the town, its people and their low-life ways to show his disgust for them. 12 out of 13 found this helpful. Tonight, I looked up John Astin's name, and THERE IT WAS! Molybdenum Element Facts. Eventually it is learned that the town’s mysterious name Molybdenum (which is pronounced as Molly Be Damned by some, and others cant pronounce it at all) is actually an element used to produce steel and the town is rich in it, and most of the people in town own stock in the local mine. So memorable, in fact, that I've been trying to remember the title for about 4 years. Molybdenum has a density of 10.2 gram per cubic centimetre, it also has an atomic mass of 95.95 atomic mass units. A rare unpronounceable element: "molly be damned" Molybdenum, a silvery-white metal, is a transition metal that has a periodic symbol Mo and molybdenum’s atomic number is 42. I never saw it again, but it has stuck in my memory ever since. I happened to see this years ago by accident. Molybdenum for all your shiny needs. There are still funny parts, but they become hard to find. Living in the Shadow of the Molly-Be-Damned. When I went to the local theater to see it, I was drawn in by the teaser that it was the funniest movie ever made.
From the humorless script, to the cheap production values, to the pointless plot, to the actors who clearly realized they were in a turkey and phoned in their performances--it absolutely flabbergasts me that some people actually found it even remotely amusing. Molybdenum adds electrical conductivity to alloys. The brothers, a couple of ne'er-do-wells, turn a sleepy mining town … But I was wonderfully surprised to find it hilarious. Michael is an unambitious cardsharp and Timothy is a small-time rogue and roué. I first saw this movie when the local TV station was running a "World's Worst Movies Week", and this was one of the movies. I only saw this movie ONE time in the theater, and never again, and have racked my brains out trying to remember the title. It is truly awful. He's only one O'Toole brother, the other is Steve Carlson. Anyway, I have NO memory of the plot or the characters, but there is ONE thing that sticks out in my mind.
